However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. —John 16:13
Yielding our will and living out of a meek spirit has so many benefits. God never asked us to live out something without it having a deep and abiding benefit to our lives, both naturally and spiritually. He wants to lead us not to only prove we can be led, but He has a heart to lead us into all good things.
Jesus said in the book of John, chapter 16 that the Holy Spirit will tell you things to come. The word “tell” is a Greek word odegeo and is a word used for a guide who shows a traveler the safest course to an unknown country. This is a perfect way to describe the Holy Spirit! He is not only a comforter, but He is the guide who is trying to get us to a future point of destination in the safest way possible.*
Think about the possibilities for a moment; all your dreams, plans, and hopes whirling around your heart, your mind and your will. All the hours, days, even years spent wondering how you’re going to get there. Should I take this course? Should I marry that person? Is it time to have kids now? Should I go for that? It’s impossible to see what is still unseen, but Jesus gives us hope! He says you don’t have to be afraid. You have a guide, a tour guide. A guide that will take you and lead you exactly where you need to go. Into a place of deep fulfillment, purpose and peace. He’ll lead you to do what you were created to do and be who you were created to be.
